Nancy Ballard, Author

I was born in 1951, the fourth daughter of eight children, I grew up in San Francisco to a Mother from Carmel CA of Catalonia.

Decent, and a Bar Owner Irish Catholic Father, a third generation San Francisco native. Both are deceased. I am 42 years married, a mom to three, a grandmother to six, and yes I did have a prior. Married at 18 to my high school sweetheart, I was divorced by 21.

I attended Catholic School and if you are from San Francisco you will ask “what school did you go to?”  - St. Emydius Grammar School St. Vincent’s High School/Cathedral/ now known as Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep. I “majored” in business, shorthand, typing, and business law, knowing college was not in my future. I focused on helping others in a business environment; my love of art and the written word put on hold as not sensible.

I always loved volunteering, starting at 18, teaching art at St. Elizabeth’s home for unwed mothers to girls my age. I was a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), a baby cuddler, a facilitator for art for those suffering from Alzheimer’s and Lewy Body, and young children on dialysis, all with UC Hospital in San Francisco. I loved helping in the classrooms of my children, nieces and nephews.

I have been a teacher, a secretary, an office manager, a waitress, a student, an answering service operator, and a business owner. I was the director and founder of Ross Valley Pre School in Marin County, CA and co-founder of ME Art Gallery in San Francisco.  I have published three additional books, and am a master botanical illustrator.
